Almost Made it to Market Square
Our weekend plans were off to a great start. We were pleasantly surprised in our hotel room at the Luxbury Inn & Suites in Maryville, TN. I had done very little research before booking the room for a Friday night stay and I only knew that it was the closest place to the concert venue. For the price and location, we definitely weren't expecting a 1 bedroom with kitchen. After settling in, we headed to The Shed to grab a quick bite of BBQ before the concert.
This was our second concert at this venue and we really like the atmosphere. It's outdoors which sometimes equals HOT but after the sun goes down, then it's perfect. You can take your own lawn chairs to sit in on the perimeter of the shed or you can stand up next to the stage if you prefer. That night we saw the band The Steel Woods. (Highly recommend giving them a listen.)
On Saturday we had a nice (free) breakfast at the hotel and then did a little shopping in Maryville. We were staying in downtown Knoxville at Market Square so we had some time to waste before we could check in.
And that's where the nice, planned weekend ended *insert sigh*. By noon on Saturday, I could feel a migraine coming on. The front desk clerk at the Crowne Plaza in downtown Knoxville was wonderful and let us check-in way early. I took some of my migraine meds and slept for 3 hours.
Once I got up, I felt halfway okay and we headed to a birthday party. I'd love to say that everything got back to normal from here, but unfortunately, it didn't. The heat from being outside was too much and I literally had to spend the entire birthday party in the car with my face smooshed up against the air conditioning vents. *Insert even bigger sigh*
We finally got back to the room and we didn't get back out. At first, I had an overwhelming feeling of disappointment. We had the perfect hotel in the most perfect location for exploring downtown Knoxville and market square and I. WAS. SICK!
I will spare you the details of the "Montezuma's revenge stomach bug" that I had but I've written all of this to say that sometimes, unfortunately, our trips don't always go as planned. Some things are simply out of our control. Try and make the most out of the cards you're dealt. When you're on vacation or a weekend getaway...remember, you didn't getaway so you could stress!
There was no way we could go out for a night on the town so we stayed in. We curled up in bed, found us a movie to watch, and ordered Doordash so Tom could eat dinner. He even ordered me a piece of cheesecake in hopes that I'd wake up in the middle of the night and be hungry ❤️
Was it the weekend we planned? Absolutely not! We didn't even get to see Market Square! 😕 Was it still a nice weekend together? Of course! I enjoyed being waited on hand and foot. 😉
Life is full of good and not-so-good surprises... Make memories even when your plans go down the toilet (lol, yes, pun intended there!)
